California K-9 Wounded, Suspect Dead in Gunfight
A K-9 with the Placer County (CA) Deputy Sheriff's Office was wounded in a gunfight with a man who had gone on a shooting spree on Tuesday night. The gunman was killed in the exchange, and K-9 Eros was struck and wounded.

K-9 Eros was then transported to a veterinary facility, where he underwent surgery, which was considered to be successful.

A K-9 with the Placer County (CA) Deputy Sheriff's Office was wounded in a gunfight with a man who had gone on a shooting spree on Tuesday night. The gunman was killed in the exchange, and K-9 Eros was struck and wounded.
K-9 Eros was then transported to a veterinary facility, where he underwent surgery, which was considered to be successful.
The Placer County Deputy Sheriff's Association said on Facebook, "Placer County Sheriff K-9 Eros was shot tonight during the apprehension of an armed homicide suspect on a violent spree. Eros is currently undergoing surgery. He is stable and expected to survive. He's a good boy."
The association later posted an update saying, "Eros is expected to make a full recovery!"
K-9 Eros and his handler recently competed in the Western States K-9 Trial, hosted by the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office.
PCSO said on Facebook, "Competition was fierce with 28 other K9 teams in attendance, but Deputy Thompson and Eros were successful in obtaining several trophies. Eros took first place in narcotics/building search, fourth place in narcotics/vehicle search, and first place in the narcotics category overall. Eros also took first place in patrol area search and third place in the patrol category overall."
