A Long Beach (Calif.) Police gang detective was hit by gunfire from a vehicle that fired on the pair of officers, leading to a search for the gunman on Sunday, the agency announced.
The uniformed detectives were fired upon at 10:50 p.m. Saturday near Anaheim Street and Mahanna Avenue when an occupant of a vehicle fired multiple rounds at the unmarked police vehicle that was equipped with emergency lights and siren.

An officer from an additional group of officers conducting an unrelated investigation at the intersection fired at the suspect vehicle as it fled southbound on Mahanna. Investigators don't believe a suspect was hit by the officer's gunfire, and later impounded a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle's description in the area of Eighth Street and Gundry Avenue.
The Long Beach SWAT was activated and the department's bloodhound dog was utilized, along with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department bloodhound in the search of the suspect.
