Bloomberg Softens Police Strike Comments

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Tuesday began to distance himself from comments he made on a talk show that police officers should strike until the passage of tougher gun-control laws.
At a Tuesday event, Bloomberg told the Wall Street Journal he "didn't mean literally go on strike."
He then added, "In fact, in New York, they can't go on strike. There's a law against it."
During the interview, Bloomberg and Morgan were discussing the July 20 Aurora, Colo., movie theater shooting. Bloomberg said he was frustrated about the availability of ammunition and firearms supplies.
"I don't understand why the police officers across this country don't stand up collectively and say we're going to go on strike," Bloomberg said. "We're not going to protect you unless you, the public, through your legislature, do what's required to keep us safe."
