The former security guard suspected of gunning down the Stanislaus County (Calif.) Sheriff's deputy and locksmith who tried to evict him had planned an extended ambush of officers.
The body of James Ferrario, 45, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound when authorities entered the charred Modesto four-plex. Ferrario's fatal shooting of Deputy Robert Paris and locksmith Glendon Engert resulted in an 11-hour standoff with law enforcement. During the barricade, the home caught fire.
