"We know he has a gunshot wound to the upper thigh, but he is in good condition, alert and talking and in good spirits," Commissioner Michael Harrison said.
Harrison said the shooter was driving in the opposite direction of the officers' car and it was the officer in the driver's seat that returned fire and was wounded. Three other officers were in the car.
Harrison said the officers had body-worn cameras but given that they were conducting surveillance, it is unknown if they were wearing the cameras or if they were on.
