Mexican authorities have arrested the principal leader of the La Linea gang of traffickers and corrupt police officers serving as the enforcement arm for the Juárez Cartel.
Jose Antonio Acosta Hernandez was also wanted in the U.S. for allegedly killing three people connected to the U.S. consulate, and has confessed to ordering 1,500 killings. The former police officer known as El Diego was arrested Saturday.
There was a $1.2 million reward for his capture.
As the armed force of the Juárez Cartel, La Linea ("The Line") also set up a car bomb ambush in Ciudad Juárez which killed two soldiers, a police officer and a medic on July 16, 2010. An industrial explosive named Tovex was used in the attack.
