Arizona Officer Creates Safe Haven for Trafficked Girls

An officer with the Tucson Police Department has made a mission out of caring for young women—girls in some cases—who are the victims of human trafficking.

According to Tucson.com , Officer Sarah Haught entered law enforcement with the ambition of working at the federal level, perhaps with the FBI. Her job with the Tucson Police Department was only supposed to be a stop along the way.

But Haught has remained at TPD for more than a decade, focusing much of her work on the scourge of human trafficking of young women.

In a discussion with a mentor, she found a passion to help women who are victims of that crime, and in 2017, she started the nonprofit Beauty From Ashes Ranch , a faith-based organization that will eventually become a holistic care facility for young women and girls.

Officer Haught has been awarded Tucson Local Media and Inside Tucson Business' Public Service Champion award at its 2019 Women of Influence ceremony, and the Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Foundation honored her as one of five "Unsung Heroes" this year.

"A lot of what these girls are seeking is love, value and self-worth, and through my relationship with Christ, I've learned that my value and self-worth aren't placed in humans or the world, but in Christ," she said.
