2 Shot By LAPD In Dorner Manhunt Get $4.2 Million

The city of Los Angeles has agreed to a $4.2 million settlement with the two newspaper delivery women who were injured when LAPD officers opened fire on them during the Chris Dorner manhunt.

Margie Carranza, 47, and her mother, Emma Hernandez, 71, were delivering newspapers in Torrance on Feb. 7, when officers mistook their blue Toyota Tacoma for Dorner's gray Nissan Titan. Hernandez was shot twice in the back and Carranza was hit by flying glass, according to their attorney .

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck called the shooting "a tragic misinterpretation" by officers working under "incredible tension" hours after Dorner allegedly shot police officers, reports the Los Angeles Times .

In March, the city paid the women $40,000 to cover the cost to replace their bullet-ridden truck. The officers reportedly fired more than 100 rounds into the vehicle.
