A suspect is facing multiple charges of assault on officers after a 14-hour-long standoff in Philadelphia over the weekend ended with him being shot and two police officers being hit by gunfire that was stopped by their body armor.

The barricade situation in Germantown lasted from Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Steve Robbins, 65, was taken to the hospital in critical condition after he was shot in the upper-right chest when SWAT made entry and exchanged fire with him, police told 6ABC.

Robbins is charged with seven counts of assault of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault and related offenses.

Robbins had been wanted on a bench warrant for unlawful contact with a minor since February 2022.

Police say the incident started around 4 p.m. Saturday when officers were called for reports of a man with a gun.

Police said that officers inside heard one shot before exiting the home, setting a perimeter, and declaring a barricade.

The barricade lasted overnight Saturday into Sunday.

After negotiations reached an impasse, SWAT made entry. They were reportedly fired on by the suspect and two officers were hit but suffered no wounds thanks to their armor. A ballistic shield carried by a third officer was also hit. The suspect used a shotgun and fired through a door, police say.
