ATK/Federal
Federal makes a complete line of shotgun ammo, including target rounds, slugs, and buckshot. The Anoka, Minn.-based company recently introduced two innovative shells for law enforcement applications. Federal’s Tactical Buckshot features recoil reduction and the new FliteControl Wad, which the company says delivers the tightest buckshot patterns without barrel alterations or choke modifications. Also new in the Federal shotgun ammo line is the Tactical TruBall Rifled Slug. The TruBall system centers the slug in the barrel and promotes clean separation of the components after they leave the muzzle. Federal says the TruBall Rifled Slug is capable of two-inch groups at 50 yards.

Hornady
Hornady’s newest shotgun product is its TAP for Personal Defense Buckshot, which features propellant formulated to minimize muzzle flash and preserve the shooter’s night vision. Designed to be extremely reliable in both semi-auto and pump shotguns, Hornady TAP Buckshot reportedly delivers the tightest pattern of any buckshot shell on the market. At 20 yards, Hornady says the pattern is 8.125 inches x 5.25 inches.

Polyshok Ammunition
Polyshok’s Impact Reactive Projectile is not large, but it hits with so much punch that it’s been described as a type of shaped charge. Because it is a powdered lead projectile, the IRP is a good option when the shooter has concerns about overpenetration. The IRP’s wound channel is frightening. Used on 10-percent ordinance gelatin, IRP rounds produce a permanent wound channel that’s eight inches deep and five inches in diameter.

Remington
The Remington 870 shotgun is one of the world’s most popular police weapons. So, naturally, Remington makes a great selection of law enforcement shotgun ammo. The Remington LE line of shotgun ammo includes Magnum and reduced-recoil buckshot and standard and reduced-recoil rifled slugs. Remington boasts a 25-percent tighter pattern for its Express LE buckshot compared to standard buckshot. Remington’s Slugger Rifled Slugs have an oversized diameter for better gas sealing and improved accuracy.

Winchester
Winchester’s Ranger line of law enforcement ammo includes some excellent shotgun shells. The company’s low-recoil buckshot and slug loads have 30-percent less kick, but they sacrifice nothing in terms of accuracy. Ranger Low Recoil Buckshot features a new one-piece plastic shot cup and a magnum-grade brass case that reduces projectile deformation, increasing velocity and improving accuracy. Full-power shells are also available in the Ranger and Super-X lines.
