LWRC's M6A2 Special Purpose Rifle
The LWRC M6A2 Special Purpose Rifle is very lightweight and easy to wield. And the mid-length gas-piston design means that the rifle does not need as much cleaning and maintenance as a standard direct impingement M4. We featured LWRC's SPR as our "Arsenal" review for May 2012. Photos by Alex Landeen.

Remington R12P Tactical Shotgun
Remington's innovative R12P Tactical shotgun, which will be available later this year, is the law enforcement version of its Versa Max shotgun. The self-regulating, dual-pistol VersaPort gas system allows the semi-auto shotgun to handle any length of shell you can pull from your go bag. Remington has begun offering initial builds of the R12P to law enforcement customers, and will release the gun in the fourth quarter. The gun was introduced at SHOT Show in January. It will retail for about $1,100. View a video of the shotgun here.

Use-of-Force Simulators
High-tech shoot-don't-shoot scenarios let you train realistically without stepping onto the street. You don't want to find out in the middle of a gunfight that you need to work on your judgment, tactics, and reaction time under stress. That's why systems that immerse you in realistic scenarios—complete with lethal and less-lethal options, and even physical consequences in some cases—are so valuable in training. View our slideshow of seven use-of-force simulator systems that provide this important training.

Historic NYPD Patrol Cars
The NYPD began using horse-drawn police wagons in the later part of the 19th Century to move police forces from place to place. Motorized wagons came into use later, and it wasn't until the 1920s and 30s that the department began regularly using motorized patrol cars. Plymouth two-door radio cars were the standard in the late 1930s and 1940s. By the 1970s, the Plymouth Fury was the mainstay. Black-and-white photos courtesy of the New York City Police Museum.

Springfield's XD(m)-9 5.25
At first glance, Springfield Armory's XD(m)-9 5.25 pistol may be viewed as a pistol for competitive shooters. The company did indeed seek design input from champion shooter Rob Leatham. However, it's a viable option for police service. It's excellent ergonomics, low recoil, and high cartridge capacity would be especially useful in tactical operations. Read our full "Arsenal" review of the gun.
