The chief of police for the Seattle Police Department has voiced concern over a plan being floated among some city council members to slash the agency's budget in half.

According to NPR, Chief Carmen Best is re-imagining her police force amid ongoing anti-police protests and calls for reform in policing. She says however, that a 50% reduction in funds is not the way to achieve changes in police tactics and strategy for serving the community.

Best told NPR, "I want to make sure we have the right staffing model that we're able to continue providing public safety to the community that we serve."
