A K-9 with the Fishers (IN) Police Department was reportedly killed while tracking two suspects after a vehicle pursuit on Tuesday night.

According to Fox News, the incident began when officers attempted to stop a vehicle reportedly being driven by an individual under the influence of alcohol or another intoxicant.

The car stopped and the two occupants exited and fled on foot.

A K-9 Unit was called to the scene to locate the suspects and, during that search, K-9 Harlej was shot and killed.

Harlej was five years old and had been partnered with Officer Jarred Koopman since he joined the department in 2015.

The two suspects were eventually apprehended.
