Following a three-month investigation, District Attorney Jeff Cheney has concluded that an officer with the Rifle (CO) Police Department was justified in the fatal shooting of Allan George in August.

According to the Post Independent, Corporal Dewey Ryan or Officer Shelby McNeal encountered the armed gunman and issued verbal commands for him to drop the weapon.

The District Attorney determined that the officers exhausted all possible measures in trying to get George to submit to arrest, reportedly repeating commands 46 times before shooting him.

"Where over three dozen orders to drop the weapon go unheeded, prevailing law does not require a police officer to wait until an armed and dangerous felon has drawn a bead on the officer or others before using deadly force," the DA's report said.
