USCG Seizes $92 Million Shipment of Cocaine off California Coast

The United States Coast Guard seized nearly 7,000 pounds of cocaine—with an estimated street value of $92 million—off the California coast on Wednesday.

According to Fox News, Coast Guard Cutter Alert brought in two cases totaling 4,000 pounds of cocaine, while the cutter Robert Ward captured a 1,500-pound case. The cutter Seneca commandeered a case weighing 1,400 pounds.

According to its annual performance report, the United States Coast Guard seized 223 metric tons of cocaine bound for America in fiscal year 2017, the latest year for which such data is available.

That same year, the Coast Guard seized 31,190 pounds of marijuana from the open seas.
