The family of an Indiana police officer is reeling from the tragic death of a one-year-old girl who dropped from the deck of a cruise ship docked in Puerto Rico on Sunday.

The family of an Indiana police officer is reeling from the tragic death of a one-year-old girl who dropped from the deck of a cruise ship docked in Puerto Rico on Sunday.

According to CBS News, the child—the daughter of Officer Alan Wiegand of the South Bend Police Department—was playing with her maternal grandfather on the deck of the Freedom of the Seas cruise ship when she fell 11 stories to the dock below.

"The South Bend Police Department offers its sincerest condolences to Officer Alan Wiegand and his family during this difficult time following the tragic loss of their child while in Puerto Rico," the agency said in a written statement. "The department asks the community to pray for the entire Wiegand family as they grieve and to respect their privacy."

An investigation will be conducted but no arrests have been made. The ship set sail for another destination on Monday.
