An armed man wanted for an undisclosed allegation resisted arrest at a traffic stop and was fatally shot by an officer with the Bemidji (MN) Police Department, according to a statement the agency posted to Facebook.

The Bemidji police officer determined that a passenger in the stopped vehicle had a warrant for his arrest and called a Beltrami County Sheriff's deputy for assistance.

EMS was called, but the subject was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputy and the officer were placed on standard administrative leave as the investigation moves ahead.
