The City Council in Dallas, Texas, has approved a new $1.3-billion general fund budget that includes pay raises for public safety workers.

The starting pay for police officers and fire-rescue workers will now be $60,000, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Police officers and fire-rescue workers hired within the last four years—at starting salaries closer to $49,000—will also receive pay raises to the new starting salary.

Public safety workers currently making more than $60,000 will also get a three percent raise.
