An Orange County, Calif., man was fatally shot by SWAT officers from Placentia and Brea late Monday, after he pointed a double-barrel shotgun at officers during a standoff.

Officers pulled over 57-year-old Joseph Paul Oregero around 3 p.m. after running his plate and finding he had an outstanding warrant. Oregero gave the officers his middle finger and ran into a trailer, where officers said they heard him rack a shotgun round.

During the standoff, Oregero's friends contacted police to say he had indicated he would "kill or be killed," reports the Orange County Register.
