S.C. Officer's Body Armor Helped Him Survive Shooting

A Cheraw (S.C.) police officer's ballistic vest likely saved his life, after he was struck by two bullets from the gun of a suspect who he had pursued after stopping his vehicle.

A Cheraw (S.C.) police officer's ballistic vest likely saved his life after he was struck by two bullets from the gun of a suspect who he had pursued after stopping his vehicle, SCnow.com reports.

Officer Maurice Merritt was shot once in the chest and once in the back as he exited his patrol car at the end of a vehicle pursuit of a 2010 Chevy Impala.

After firing the shots at the officer, 27-year-old Travis Quick headed into a warehouse where he was corned by police and killed himself. Quick had recently served five years in prison for involuntary manslauter.
