Pima County (Ariz.) deputy sheriffs running a background check on one of their recent inmates discovered that the man—a Mexican national—is wanted in connection with a 13-year-old Tucson double homicide.
Geraldo Lopez was being held on unrelated sexual assault and kidnapping charges at the time of the discovery. Lopez, 31, is now being held on the 1995 murder charges. He is charged with shooting and killing Joel Tapia, 26, and José Urquides, 19.
