When we're apprehending a suspect who is surrendering, we're at our most vulnerable. This is precisely what suspects are counting on, and they'll look for an advantage to escape. It's known as fight or flight, and can often be fight and flight.

After responding to an EDP call, Scranton (Pa.) PD's Officer Rocco Cipriano parked and began walking toward the residence. A neighbor stopped him and said the girl had been outside of the house carrying a butcher knife and told the neighbor she would kill the cops if they came.

Beware the Restrained Subject
Over the years, I've heard multiple accounts of handcuffed subjects who later escaped or attempted to escape. One particular incident involved a young kid who fled on foot. His ability to outrun two officers with his hands behind his back demonstrated just how focused a person can be if he wants to escape.

Wisconsin Woman Stripped and Spit At Female Officer During Arrest
A Sheboygan, Wisc., woman will serve six months for a bizarre day that began with a beef-jerky theft and ended with an arrest that involved her stripping in front of her children, kicking one officer in the groin and spitting into the mouth of another officer.
