The Cuomo administration says it's looking at whether New York state needs to buy, fuel and maintain nearly 60,000 vehicles in fleets, including nearly 3,500 trooper cars. About half of those vehicle are assigned to investigators and command officers.

Assemblyman Wesley Chesbro, a Democrat, introduced a pair of bills Tuesday that would extend the Local Safety and Protection Account. This special account funds several local public safety services — including the Rural Sheriffs Program — that help local law enforcement and county district attorneys prosecute cases.

Members of the CPOA agreed to set up a two-tiered retirement system for new hires, forgo furlough hours the city currently owes officers, give back accrued sick and vacation time for each officer, enact early retirements, and waive the right for officers to receive monetary compensation for extra time accrued.
