The bargaining union representing Colton, Calif., Police officers has agreed to a 13% pay reduction to avoid layoffs, the group announced.
Members of the Colton Police Officers Association agreed to the concession as part of a new contract with the city. The pay reduction was approved "by a large margin" of members.
"During these economic times, the members of our association believed in cuts and have agreed to help our city leaders balance a budget and not impact services," according to a statement from the association. "We hope this dialogue continues with our city leaders so we can work together to help the city of Colton advance through these hard times."
