This isn't the first time this year that multiple officers from an agency have been killed in a single incident. While I certainly hope it's the last time, my gut feeling is it probably isn't.

Clemmons Planned to Kill Schoolchildren as Well as Cops
A witness told Pierce County sheriffβs detectives that Maurice Clemmons told friends and family gathered for Thanksgiving dinner at his auntβs home in Pacific that he planned to kill βcops, children at a schoolβ and βas many people as he could in an intersection,β according to an affidavit filed by prosecutors.

Clemmons' Aunt Chose to "Do the Right Thing"
Chrisceda Clemmons couldn't do that. She had to think of her family. And she knew her nephew was not well. There was the time last May at his house in Tacoma when "he got angry at something" and started throwing rocks at his neighbors' houses and cars. One hit an elderly man. Later Clemmons assaulted two sheriff's deputies.

Shortly before I retired, I openly speculated that we were on the cusp of a new era where people would increasingly bring the fight to us. Moreover, I said they would prove to be greater threats, less predisposed to "gangsta"-style shooting and actually recognize the significance of sight alignment and trigger control.

Suspect cop killer Maurice Clemmons was shot and wounded in South Seattle and has been taken to Harborview Medical Center, according to a law enforcement source.

Seattle Police shot and killed murder suspect Maurice Clemmons this morning, Pierce County Sheriffβs spokesman Ed Troyer told The News Tribune. Pierce County Sheriffs had supplied Seattle and other police agencies information about possible acquaintances of Clemmons.

Clemmons Was Deemed "Dangerous" by Psychologists, Granted Bail Anyway
βIβll kill all you bitches,β Maurice Clemmons told the Pierce County Jail workers who were trying to book him, according to court records. It was May 9, 2009. Clemmons, 37, had been arrested after punching a sheriffβs deputy in the face. He was charged with multiple counts of third-degree assault and malicious mischief and later, second-degree child rape.
