On March 26, Officer Cliff Thompson made a split-second decision to crash his patrol car into a vehicle driven by Sandra Sharpe, 59, of Nashville, who was traveling south in a northbound lane on I-65 near Moores Lane, according to a Brentwood Police Department news release.

Officials with the Dickson (Tenn.) County Sheriff's Office said they had to pay a ransom after malware locked them out of thousands of their case files. "It's a very bad feeling to be the victim instead of the investigator," said the agency's IT director.

Tennessee Detective Dies From Heart Attack
He was directing traffic at an extremely congested intersection when he suddenly collapsed at approximately 8:50 am. An event participant used his radio to call out an "officer down" and medics arrived approximately one minute later. He was transported to a local hospital where he suffered a second, massive heart attack.

Spirit of Blue Presents Grant to Franklin PD on Grand Ole Opry Stage
The Spirit of Blue Foundation presented a safety equipment grant to the Franklin (Tenn.) Police Department on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. Country music star Craig Morgan led the Opry and its guests in honoring law enforcement officers at a recent show. The grant will be used to purchase ballistic helmets for the Franklin SWAT team.
