A Slidell, Louisiana, Police K-9 is being praised for his ability to find a handgun that a suspect reportedly discarded in the woods after opening fire on officers.
K-9 Max and his handler Officer Zach Colgan found the weapon in heavy growth June 17 (2025) a day after the suspect—Corey Griffin—reportedly shot at officers who responded to a domestic violence incident. Police say Griffin told them they would never find the gun.
Griffin was taken into custody June 16 (2025) by “members of our SWAT/K9 team,” the Slidell PD said on Facebook.
He faces charges of attempted first degree murder of a police officer, as well as firearms, resisting, and domestic violence charges.
