Just before 8 p.m. on Jan. 22, police were called to the scene of a reported suicide in progress in which a male caller claimed to be suicidal and have high-powered rifles. He threatened to harm any officers that approached him.
Minutes later police received reports of shots fired from the scene, News4 reports.
Responding officers arrived around 8:30 p.m. and immediately came under fire outside of the subject’s apartment building.
One officer was hit and transported to the hospital by a fellow officer.
A helicopter with the call sign “Eagle” was overhead and spotted the man taking cover behind and under a truck. Video from Eagle shows the man pointing a long gun at the helicopter.
The suspect, identified by law enforcement as 46-year-old Brandon Scott Poulos, went back into his apartment and reportedly fired at officers from a window.
Another officer was hit. Officers returned fire and they called for SWAT with armor support.
SWAT attempted to negotiate with Poulos but he would not surrender, and fired on the SWAT officers, police say.
Poulos was fatally shot when SWAT returned fire.
All officers wounded in the incident have now been released from the hospital and are expected to recover.
The incident remains under investigation.
