A Palm Beach County (Florida) Sheriff’s deputy was killed off duty Monday night in what authorities are calling a targeted attack.
Corrections deputy Basil Powell was shot and killed about 7:30 p.m. Monday night as he stepped out of his personal vehicle after returning home, WPTV reports.
The sheriff’s office said in a Facebook statement that the murder is “not related to his role as a corrections deputy.
Powell was hired in October 2021 and was assigned to the West Correction center.
