"There's evidence at the scene, to support that the suspect produced a shotgun and actually fired upon our K9 Obie," Madera County Sheriff Jared Pogue said.

A sheriff’s office K-9 and a suspect were injured in a shooting in Madera County Wednesday afternoon.

The Madera County Sheriff's Office says the suspect, later identified as 41-year-old Allen Scott Williams, was driving a stolen SUV when he hit several cars, ABC30 reports.

That's when the owner of the SUV called the sheriff's office, reporting every move to dispatch.

Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue says the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Allen Williams, rammed the owner of the vehicle at one point during the spree.

The suspect later ran from deputies.

"There's evidence at the scene, to support that the suspect produced a shotgun and actually fired upon our K9 Obie," Pogue says.

Deputies fired back, hitting Williams.

Obie will likely have to stay in the veterinary hospital for the next several days, but he’s expected to fully recover.

Williams is also expected to make a full recovery.
