President George W. Bush has signed bill H.R. 218, the “Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act,” which will allow qualified current and retired police officers to legally carry a concealed weapon in any of the 50 states while on or off duty.
Originally drafted in 1992, H.R. 218 has been put to a vote many times, often as part of another bill. It passed in the House in June and passed in the Senate this month.
