VIDEO: Massachusetts Man Throws Explosives at Police, Found Dead After SWAT Standoff

One man was found dead Saturday following an hourslong standoff with police in Salem, Mass., during which he barricaded himself in his apartment and threw explosives out his window at police, officials said.

State police and SWAT team members responded at 7:38 am Saturday to 911 calls reporting explosions being heard at 13 Meadow St, a two-family apartment building.

Salem Police Chief Paul Tucker told the Boston Herald a man living on the first floor had just learned he was being evicted, but declined to comment further on a motive for barricading himself and throwing explosives.

Tucker said after the man did not respond to negotiators for some time, police and SWAT team members forced themselves through the front door, where they found him dead on the first floor. No shots were fired, and the cause of his death is under investigation.
