VIDEO: California Standoff Ends with Officer Injured, Hostage and Suspect Dead

One officer was injured and the suspected hostage taker was killed after a 3-hour standoff in San Jose, CA. The hostage was found dead.

San Jose police identified on Tuesday both the hostage and the suspect who officers say killed her in the Cambrian neighborhood Monday. The woman, found dead with at least one gunshot wound, was identified by police as Yolanda Najera, 53, reports KNTV.

Police said the man who held her hostage beginning about 2:15 p.m. on Monday was Leonel Acevedo, 45. Police said the two knew each other, and that Acevedo had previously lived at the home in the 4400 block of Camden Avenue where he had "forcefully" taken Najera inside.

About 5 p.m., Acevedo came outside the home, armed with at least one handgun, police said, and fired shots at the swarms of officers outside. Police said one of the officers returned fire, killing Acevedo. Najera was found dead inside the home.

An officer sustained a minor flesh wound during the gun battle, police said.
