A bloodhound with the Jefferson County (CO) Sheriff's Office and its handler were in Wyoming over the weekend on an unrelated call when they were called upon by local police to aid in the search for a missing 12-year-old girl.

The agency posted on Facebook, "It was nearly 90 degrees and low humidity in a cactus dense area, but that didn’t stop Jessie; and in spite of wearing a cooling vest, she needed to take a 20-minute break during the search. But she wasn’t done."

The post continued, "For nearly two hours, she searched the Wyoming area where the 12-year-old girl was last seen… and then she pulled her handler, Deputy Fosler, back toward the direction they started. Deputy Fosler thought she had lost the scent."

"The pair eventually located the girl—hungry, dehydrated, and sunburnt after 20 hours out in the elements.

"This is one of those stories we’re glad to share with the public because it goes to our core mission of Protect, Serve, Enforce."
