Shooting of N.C. Deputy Triggers SWAT Standoff Near Charlotte

The deputy was shot about 5 a.m., but there is no word what led to the incident. Police say the injured Union County, N.C., sheriff's deputy was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, and that his injuries are not life-threatening. Police radio reports indicate the deputy was shot in the shoulder.

Maryland Mayor Says SWAT Team Raided His House by Mistake, Killed Dogs

A Maryland mayor is asking the federal government to investigate why SWAT team members burst into his home without knocking and shot his two dogs to death in a mistaken drug raid.The raid last week was carried out by the Prince George's County Sheriff's Department after a package containing marijuana was mailed to the home of Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo.
