Chrysler Offers Dodge Durango Special Service for Police

Chrysler began offering its Dodge Durango Special Serivce SUV to law enforcement agencies, following through on a prototype the automaker brought to Michigan State Police vehicle testing in September. The automaker has begun taking orders and expects to deliver vehicles to agencies by July 1.

2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit

Law enforcement agencies such as the Boise (Idaho) Police Department have opted for Chrysler's 2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit as their new patrol car to replace the Crown Vic being phased out by Ford this year. Rather than introduce a new model, Chrysler opted to upgrade its existing Charger. For the 2011 model year, Chrysler added a Pentastar V-6 engine option and added electronic stability control to the suspension for better handling during higher-speed pursuits. Rating the 2011 Police Motorcycles

Emergency vehicle operators with the drivers' training divisions of the LASD and LAPD evaluated the Honda ST1300, Kawasaki Concourse 14, BMW R1200 RT-P, Harley-Davidson Electra Glide and Harley-Davidson Road King. The testing regimen includes a 32-lap high-speed course, vehicle dynamics pursuit evaluation, hard-braking test, and ergonomic review.

Vectrix VX-3 Electric Vehicle

The Los Angeles Police Department is now field-testing the Vectrix VX-3, a unique three-wheeled electric patrol vehicle that will be available in the spring. The LAPD is testing the scooter-type vehicle at the city's LA Live entertainment complex that includes Staples Center. The vehicle was debuted at the 2010 COPSWEST trade show.
