The union representing officers with the San Francisco Police Department called on the federal government to prosecute a man who is accused of attacking officers with a bottle last month, but who now no longer faces criminal charges for that alleged assault.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Tony Montoya—president of the San Francisco Police Officer's Association—held a morning news conference at the union headquarters and blasted District Attorney Chesa Boudin's decision last week to withdraw charges in the case of Jamaica Hampton.
"Mr. Boudin has made it clear to criminals everywhere that you can violently attack a police officer and he’ll look the other way," Montoya said.
The alleged assailant—identified as 24-year-old Jamaica Hampton—had faced charges of assault with a deadly weapon, assault upon a police officer and threats to an officer.
Boudin said he suspended the charges against Hampton to avoid conflicts between the officer-involved shooting investigation and the criminal investigation against him.
