Ruger's Mini-14 Tactical Carbine
Before the popularization of M4-type carbines, Ruger's Mini-14 was one of the most popular choices in law enforcement for a patrol rifle. The company now produces several more-customized versions of the carbine, including the Mini-14 Tactical, which POLICE Magazine reviews in its June 2012 "Arsenal" feature. Returning To Duty: Todd Young
Fremont (Calif.) Police Officer Todd Young returned fire, after a violent Norteno gang member fired 10 rounds at him at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 27, 2010 on a street in Oakland. Officers performed trauma care on Young and delivered him to Highland Hospital, where he received life-saving emergency medical care. He is now recovering and plans to rejoin the SWAT team later this year or in early 2013. We feature his story in the June 2012 "Shots Fired" and "Todd Young's Long Road Back."

LWRC's M6A2 Special Purpose Rifle
The LWRC M6A2 Special Purpose Rifle is very lightweight and easy to wield. And the mid-length gas-piston design means that the rifle does not need as much cleaning and maintenance as a standard direct impingement M4. Police Week 2012: Candlelight Vigil
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund's 2012 candlelight vigil paid homage to law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. This year, 362 officers names were added to the memorial from 2011 and as far back as 1852. Read our coverage of the vigil here.
Remington R12P Tactical Shotgun
Remington's innovative R12P Tactical shotgun, which will be available later this year, is the law enforcement version of its Versa Max shotgun. The self-regulating, dual-pistol VersaPort gas system allows the semi-auto shotgun to handle any length of shell you can pull from your go bag. Remington has begun offering initial builds of the R12P to law enforcement customers, and will release the gun in the fourth quarter. The gun was introduced at SHOT Show in January.
