South Carolina Officer Kills Tourist Area Shooting Suspect, 11 Injured

The Myrtle Beach police department said on Facebook it would launch an internal review, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is also investigating, which is standard procedure in any officer-involved shooting.

Eleven people were injured or wounded in a shooting in the tourist zone of downtown Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Saturday. A Myrtle Beach Police officer shot and killed an 18-year-old suspect.

According to Myrtle Beach Police, officers "observed a disturbance involving multiple individuals" Saturday at 11:50 p.m.

While observing the disturbance, officers said one individual began to fire a weapon, WPDE reports.

They added that based on the immediate threat, an officer responded by discharging their firearm.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard on Sunday identified the person shot as 18-year-old Jerrius Davis of Bennettsville, WBTW reports.
