A 64-year-old woman traveling to the Cleveland Clinic for a heart transplant was stranded in a snowstorm last week and was rescued by New York State Police troopers.
The Nov. 29 incident occurred on State Route 5 in Portland, the State Police said in a statement.
When the couple became stranded in the storm, the husband made contact with a nurse at the Cleveland Clinic and the nurse contacted the State Police. The situation could have become very dire as the woman had a battery-powered heart pump.
Troopers located the vehicle before the situation became critical. The woman was transported by the troopers to the Jamestown Airport in Chautauqua County and she was flown by plane out of the area to Cleveland Clinic for the heart transplant.
