A Wayne County, Kentucky, sheriff’s deputy was shot in the chest Monday while serving papers at a home outside of Monticello. The deputy was saved by his body armor.
Police say his vest saved his life, saying if it had hit even just an inch away from where it did, in either direction, this could have been a very different situation, WKYT reports.
Police say the deputy was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Hospital as a precaution.
The suspect barricaded himself inside a home and a standoff began.
Monday night, Kentucky State Police said the scene was cleared. Tuesday morning WKYT reported that the suspect was deceased.
