The Del City Police Department, Oklahoma, released video showing how it used the thermal capability of its drone to locate a missing autistic child recently.
Around 8:46 p.m. on Feb. 9, officers responded to the report of a missing child. They arrived and learned the boy was autistic and had wandered away from home.
One of the officers deployed a drone to search for the missing boy. Using infrared, the officer saw the child walking in a nearby park and directed other officers to the location.
The video released by the department this week also contained body-worn camera footage from the officer who responded to the park and found the child, then returned him home.
“Hey buddy, how you doing brother? You doing good,” the officer asked when he greeted the child in the park.
