An off-duty deputy, 62-year-old Ronald Bates, was identified as the victim of Saturday's fatal crash in Downtown Houston by the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez shared his thoughts on his official Twitter account, giving his condolences to the family and friends of Bates.

Gonzalez said Bates served with the Harris County Sheriff's Office for 31 years and was a loving husband, father, brother and mentor, Fox 26 reports.
