Two Oklahoma City Patrol Vehicles Burn After Vehicle Pursuit

Capt. Benjamin Weir said, "If we park our police cars on tall grass, especially after a pursuit or something like that, sometimes it can get so hot that it causes a fire. And that's why we believe both cars caught fire."

Two Oklahoma City Police Department patrol vehicles caught fire Thursday afternoon in a grassy area beside Interstate 235 after a vehicle pursuit.

"We were in the process of following up on a home invasion that happened earlier today," Capt. Benjamin Weir said. "If we park our police cars on tall grass, especially after a pursuit or something like that, sometimes it can get so hot that it causes a fire. And that's why we believe both cars caught fire."

Video by KOCO shows both SUVs fully engulfed in flames. It’s likely they were both totaled.
