A Crawford County, Georgia, sheriff’s deputy was killed Tuesday night in a head-on crash.
The Georgia State Patrol reports that Deputy Timothy Tavarus Rivers, 40, was responding to a call to assist another officer around 10:09 p.m. when his patrol vehicle crossed the center line and ran onto the shoulder. GSP says that when the deputy tried to correct the vehicle’s path, he collided with an oncoming vehicle, WGXA reports.
The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office said the deputy and a passenger from the other vehicle were transported to Atrium Navicent Health by ambulance. The driver of the other vehicle was also treated for injuries.
Rivers’ body will be sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, Sheriff Lewis Walker reports on Facebook.
GSP is investigating the crash.
