Program Alerts Public to Missing Persons Via Phone

Knowing how critical the first few hours following a child abduction are, Sherry Friedlander founded the non-profit organization A Child is Missing to aid law enforcement in recovering missing children.

A Child Is Missing uses a high-speed telephony Internet program to dial out to residents and businesses in an area where a child or Alzheimer’s patient was last seen. The message asks residents to please go out into their yards and look around and advises them to call their local police department if they see the missing person.

Although called A Child Is Missing, the program is also used to find and safely recover college students, Alzheimer’s victims, and disabled persons. In the past 41 months, the organization reports it has helped to safely recover 116 missing persons through its system.

Free to law enforcement, A Child Is Missing is available nationwide. The organization also provides training and educational programs.
