A Fullerton (Calif.) police officer was critically injured earlier this week in a vehicle wreck that killed a female driver.
The crash occurred at 2:42 a.m. Police say the woman—Rebecca Cooper, 26—ran a red light in an SUV and struck the patrol car.
Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene. Officer Joshua Earnest, 23, was taken to a nearby hospital where at presstime he was in critical condition with a broken jaw and an injured pelvis. He was thrown from his vehicle by the impact. Fullerton officers are not required to wear seatbelts.
California Highway Patrol officers are investigating.
