Pelican Products' 7060 will replace the existing flashlight previously supplied to sworn officers by the Los Angeles Police Department.
Pelican Products was selected by the LAPD to work with the Department's senior staff as well as rank-and-file officers to collaborate on creating the new flashlight. Pelican designed, engineered, and produced the flashlight at its Torrance, Calif., headquarters facility, about 15 miles south of the City of Los Angeles.
As part of the testing process, Pelican sent the test models of the 7060 to more than 100 members of law enforcement across the U.S. The company says testers were especially impressed with the flashlight’s brightness and its 90 minutes of continuous battery life with no loss in intensity.
According to KABC News in Los Angeles, LAPD Chief William Bratton said of the new Pelican flashlight, “It can be used, if necessary, as an impact device. It cannot be used in such a way that can inflict unintended, significant damage.”
