5.11 Tactical Shows Innovative New Uniform at IACP Conference

Patrol officer models the 5.11 Tactical PDU at IACP Denver.
For much of the 5.11 Tactical presentation this week at the International Association of Chiefs of Police show, the audience sat and politely listened as company CEO Dan Costa showed its new products. Then Costa showed the capabilities of 5.11's new Patrol Duty Uniform and he had their rapt attention.
On the screen was an officer who crawled through dirt and splashed himself with mud and then hosed himself off, leaving the Teflon-coated Patrol Duty Uniform (PDU) pristine, clean, and dry.
Costa explained to the audience that the PDU will be available in Class A and Class B versions for both men and women. Departments can order any PDU version in poly-cotton ripstop or twill. Each pant and shirt set will sell for $99.
The PDU is machine washable and will withstand 50 washes with no fading and shrinking, according to 5.11. It's also waterproof and wrinkle resistant but comfortable and breathable.
Features include bi-swing shoulders, armpit vents, a built-in mic cord pass through, adjustable cuffs, a flat front, cargo pockets (Class B), a hidden document pocket, and permanent creases.
