The Miami-Dade Police Department will soon have a new leader, as John Timoney announced his resignation prior to the swearing in of Mayor Tomas Regalado, who has called for his ouster, the Miami Herald reports.
Timoney has been credited with turning around a dysfunctional deparment. He has also led departments in Philadelphia and New York.
Police unions had criticized Timoney for a fall in patrol morale during his most recent tenure.
